The Government of Sindh on Friday enforced new limits on business hours across the province as part of its austerity plan to save fuel and cut energy use.
According to an official notification, the orders have taken effect immediately and apply to shops, markets and shopping malls throughout Sindh.
Under the new timings, all businesses in districts other than the divisional headquarters must shut by 8:00 PM every day of the week. However, businesses in divisional headquarters have been allowed extra time and can stay open until 9:00 PM.
The notification states that several essential services will not be affected by these restrictions. These include tandoors, milk and dairy shops, bakeries, medical stores, laboratories, hospitals and petrol pumps. The exemptions are meant to ensure that the public continues to have access to necessities without interruption.
Timings for restaurants and wedding venues
Separate timings have been announced for the hospitality sector. Hotels, restaurants and food outlets are allowed to operate from 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM. Home delivery and takeaway services can continue without any time limits. Marriage halls and banquet venues have been permitted to function from 8:00 PM until midnight.

Authorities have instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners to ensure strict implementation of the new rules in coordination with Sindh Police across their respective areas.
The decision comes as concerns grow over rising fuel use and economic pressure. Provincial authorities are pushing for cost-saving steps to manage limited resources. Similar measures have been taken in the past during times of economic difficulty and fuel shortages in the country.
