Govt introduces new fixed charges for three-phase meter and solar users

After receiving approval from National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), fixed charges have been introduced for all consumers using three-phase electricity meters, including those who have installed solar systems.

A minimum fixed charge of Rs1,687 has been applied to three-phase meter users. The amount will depend on the sanctioned load approved for each consumer.

Households and businesses with an 8 kW load will pay Rs2,700, while 9 kW users will be charged Rs3,037. For a 10 kW load, the fixed charge is set at Rs3,375, and it rises to Rs3,712 for 11 kW. Consumers with 12 kW load will pay Rs4,050, and those with 13 kW will be charged Rs4,387.

For higher loads, the fixed charge reaches Rs4,725 for 14 kW and Rs5,062 for 15 kW. Consumers with a sanctioned load above 15 kW will face even higher fixed charges.

Energy specialists say the new fixed charges will mostly impact people who have installed solar power systems. Residents living in private housing societies may also experience extra financial pressure because of the new billing structure.

After NEPRA’s approval, these fixed charges have already been added to the current month’s electricity bills.
