Professor Azhar Shah, who serves as the Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Sindh Dadu Campus, has been suspended after videos shared on social media showed him allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident led the provincial government to order a formal inquiry.
Officials said the Sindh government took action after the videos spread widely online. Reports alleged that the professor used inappropriate language, disrupted academic activities, and arrived at the workplace in an unprofessional state. The situation attracted public criticism and raised questions about the university’s reputation.
The pro chancellor of the university, who is also the provincial minister for universities and boards, instructed the vice chancellor to suspend Azhar Shah immediately and begin an investigation to verify the situation.
In an official letter sent to the university administration, the minister stated that the videos had reportedly harmed the university’s image and needed prompt review.
Authorities have directed that the investigation should follow proper legal procedures, and the accused must be given a fair chance to present his explanation. The inquiry has been assigned a 15-day deadline. After completion, a detailed report containing findings and suggestions will be submitted to the pro chancellor.
The matter will also be presented before the university’s syndicate for further review and any action considered appropriate under the law.
