Another major city announces Basant celebrations after Lahore

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced plans to organise a Basant festival in the city to welcome the arrival of spring.

While speaking to media representatives, he clarified that he was not talking about the kite that was cut but about holding a Basant festival in Karachi, likely at Ibn-e-Qasim Park or Benazir Bhutto Park.

He said the Basant season has arrived and a large kite flying festival will be arranged in the coming weeks. He also criticised those spreading negativity, saying people deserve moments of happiness and the city should be made more vibrant and attractive.

The mayor said the federal government is not allocating funds for Karachi, whereas the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is spending 46 billion rupees and plans to spend 80 billion rupees this year for development projects.

He added that with support from the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Sindh government is allocating 300 billion rupees for Karachi.

He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to contribute to the development of Karachi, stating that criticism alone cannot resolve issues and that practical efforts are necessary.

Responding to another question, Murtaza Wahab said that when development work was not taking place, there was no discussion about a no-confidence move. He added that now, as billions of rupees have been allocated to KMC, certain groups have started raising objections.
