The government has completed a survey to assess roads damaged by recent heavy rains in Karachi. Under the plan, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will repair 106 roads, while the provincial government will restore another 453 roads across different towns of the city.
The Sindh government has set aside Rs25 billion for the repair and rehabilitation of damaged roads. The work will be carried out under the World Bank funded Local Government Department project titled Competitive and Livable City of Karachi, also known as CLICK.
A spokesperson for Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said that a recent meeting was held to review the progress of the road repair initiative. Officials shared that work is expected to begin soon, with district wise plans already finalized.
According to the details, the program covers 138 roads in District East, 50 in District Central, 27 in District South, 15 in Korangi, 93 in Malir, and 27 in District Kemari.
The condition of traffic signals along major routes such as I I Chundrigar Road and Mauripur Road was also reviewed during the meeting. It was decided to prepare beautification plans for both roads to improve their overall look and usability.
As part of efforts to improve traffic infrastructure, the Transport Department will upgrade 45 existing traffic signals and install 31 new ones across Karachi. Officials said these steps are aimed at easing traffic flow and improving road safety in the city.
