ISLAMABAD: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has released an updated winter gas schedule for households in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, introducing three daily supply windows from December to February, according to a report.
Officials from SNGPL said gas will be supplied daily from 5:30 am to 8:30 am, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. They advised families to plan breakfast and other meals during these hours.
Supply Schedule
- Morning: 5:30 am to 8:30 am
- Midday: 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
- Evening: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
The officials added that industries will not face load-shedding under this new arrangement. They pointed out that gas demand has risen sharply in winter, but assured that supply is still available in the system.
SNGPL also urged consumers to use gas carefully, noting that it is an expensive resource and should only be used as needed.
Separately, gas prices across the country are likely to go up after SNGPL and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) submitted requests to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for major tariff increases for the 2025–26 financial year.
Documents show that SNGPL has asked for a rise of Rs189 per MMBTU, while SSGC has proposed an increase of Rs125.41 per MMBTU.
OGRA will review SNGPL’s case on November 7 and SSGC’s on November 11, where the regulator will examine the companies’ financial grounds before making a final decision.
SNGPL has suggested setting the average prescribed price at Rs1,955.50 per MMBTU, citing financial needs of more than Rs52.95 billion for the next fiscal year. SSGC has proposed an average rate of Rs1,658.56 per MMBTU and estimates financial requirements exceeding Rs24 billion.
SNGPL has also projected a Rs582 million shortfall under the LPG Air Mix subsidy program, while SSGC has asked for the recovery of Rs34.25 billion to cover losses from previous years.
If these requests are accepted, gas prices could see a noticeable rise nationwide, adding further pressure on households and businesses already dealing with high energy expenses.
These developments come shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the reopening of gas connections for homes across Pakistan, a significant step aimed at easing long-standing energy shortages.
Speaking at a ceremony, the Prime Minister said that during the PDM government in 2022, the country faced severe difficulties in gas supply.
Still, the current administration has worked hard to improve the situation. He said that from today, new connections of high-quality RLNG are being issued to the public.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the previous coalition government took important steps to upgrade the gas network to ensure reliable and sustainable energy delivery.
