NDMA issues alert as rain, snowfall expected in several regions

A fresh spell of rain has entered the country as the Meteorological Department predicts cold winds from Siberia will affect Karachi.

Officials said temperatures in the port city are likely to drop further, with cold winds expected to persist throughout the day.

At the same time, several other regions of Pakistan are set to receive rain and snowfall during the new weather system.

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather alert effective from January 31 to February 3, cautioning about possible rain and snowfall in different parts of the country.

According to the Meteorological Department, northern Balochistan and other northern areas may receive rainfall, while snowfall is expected in mountainous regions.

Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also forecast to experience rain and snow.

From February 1 to 3, rain and snowfall are likely in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Punjab, Murree, and Gilgit.

Authorities have warned that higher-altitude areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir could face landslides due to the prevailing weather conditions.

The NDMA has advised all relevant departments to stay vigilant and take preventive steps in advance to minimise any potential damage caused by the adverse weather.
