During Ramadan 2026, authorities in the federal capital launched a major operation against professional beggars, with more than 100 individuals taken into custody so far, as reported on Sunday.
The crackdown is continuing, and all A-Section officers have been given special assignments by DC Islamabad Irfan Memon.
Irfan Memon said that since the beginning of Ramadan, over 100 beggars have been arrested. He also shared that the administration is preparing a complete database of professional beggars to stop them from returning to the city.
The DC made it clear that organized beggary networks that become active during Ramadan will not be allowed to operate. However, he emphasized that public cooperation is essential for the success of these efforts.
He urged citizens to report any professional beggar to the district administration without delay.
Earlier, in May 2025, the Ministry of Interior informed the National Assembly about the number of Pakistani beggars deported from different countries.
In a written reply, the ministry stated that since 2024, a total of 5,402 Pakistani beggars had been deported from abroad. These deportations took place from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Malaysia, the UAE, Qatar and Oman.
In 2025 alone, 552 Pakistani beggars were sent back to the country. Out of these, 535 were deported from Saudi Arabia and nine from the UAE. Another five were deported from Iraq, according to the Ministry of Interior.
