Heavy snowfall along with rain is expected in Murree due to a western weather system, prompting the Punjab Government to issue important directives to handle the situation and protect the public.
Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth visited Murree to assess the arrangements and held a meeting with the district administration. Officials briefed him on preparations related to snowfall, road clearance, and the risk of landslides.
Authorities informed the minister that rain and snowfall are expected today and tomorrow, with snow accumulation likely to range between 12 and 20 inches.
The minister directed officials to complete the identification of sensitive roads and key locations and to ensure round the clock monitoring of vehicles entering Murree. He stressed the need for an immediate response in case of any emergency.
He also instructed all concerned departments to stay in close contact with the Pakistan Meteorological Department and obtain regular weather updates.
During the visit, Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth inspected various roads in Murree and visited salt storage camps and tourist facilitation centres. He also reviewed the snow and road clearing machinery being operated by the mechanical wing.
He said the Punjab Government is fully active in providing facilities to tourists and residents and that a comprehensive plan is being prepared to manage the expected snow spell.
The minister emphasized coordination among the Highway Department, district administration, traffic police, Rescue 1122 and other relevant departments.
He confirmed that an adequate supply of salt bags is available in storage and that 13 tourist facilitation centres in Murree are fully functional.
The Deputy Commissioner Murree, Assistant Commissioner and officers from the Highway Department and Mechanical Wing were also present during the visit.
