Internet disruptions continue across Balochistan

QUETTA: Mobile internet services in Quetta have been disrupted again, with authorities opting to partially restrict access rather than impose a full shutdown.

After facing strong public criticism over complete internet bans in the past, the Balochistan government has adopted a different approach, sharply slowing internet speeds to a level where the service is barely usable.

Residents across the city have voiced anger over the situation, saying mobile internet interruptions have become a regular occurrence. They say the disruptions affect communication, businesses, students, and professionals who depend on reliable connectivity.

Many users complained that despite paying high charges for data packages, they are unable to use the service properly, resulting in financial loss.

Telecom companies have also been criticised, with users accusing them of collecting hefty subscription fees while failing to ensure uninterrupted service. Residents recalled that during a month-long suspension earlier this year, companies had promised to compensate customers by restoring their packages.

According to citizens, no such compensation has been provided so far, further damaging trust between consumers and service providers. Observers say the repeated internet disruptions in Balochistan point to broader issues related to governance and digital policy in the province.
