Traffic restored in Rawalpindi after protests, Faizabad interchange still closed

Traffic movement was largely restored across Rawalpindi on the third day of protests as authorities cleared barricades and reopened major routes that had been closed for the past two days.

However, the Faizabad Interchange and parts of Murree Road near Shamsabad remain shut due to ongoing blockades.

Traffic officials said roads in the Cantonment area, city centre, and Murree Road from Mareer Chowk to Double Road Chowk have been reopened for public use.

Other key routes, including Peshawar Road, Chaklala Road, Airport Road, and The Mall, are now open, easing the severe congestion that had gripped the city earlier in the week.

Despite the improvement, heavy containers still block the Faizabad Interchange, a key link between Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and the adjoining section of Murree Road near Shamsabad.

These closures have also kept nearby routes, such as IJP Road and the Double Road to Faizabad link, under partial restriction.

The Metro Bus service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi remains suspended for the third straight day, causing continued inconvenience for daily commuters.

Meanwhile, traffic on the M-1 motorway to Peshawar, M-2 motorway to Lahore, M-3 motorway from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem, and M-4 motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Multan is flowing normally.

For the past two days, the closure of key roads and intercity links had brought movement between Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and nearby areas to a halt.

Residents struggled to reach offices, hospitals, schools, and markets, while commercial activity suffered due to disruptions in goods transport.

With most routes now reopened, supply chains have resumed, restoring normal business operations across the twin cities.

Officials added that traffic wardens have been deployed on reopened roads to manage the flow and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
