Work begins on Rs1.47 billion Azeempura flyover in Karachi

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the Rs1.47 billion Azeempura flyover in Shah Faisal Colony, marking the start of a development project aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the city’s eastern corridor.

According to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the flyover is expected to be completed within 100 days and will help improve traffic flow between Shah Faisal Colony and Shahrah-e-Bhutto.

Speaking to reporters during the ceremony, Wahab said the project will benefit commuters coming from Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, and nearby areas, especially those travelling toward the airport corridor.

The Azeempura intersection has long been known as a major traffic bottleneck where vehicles from residential areas and industrial zones gather at a signalized junction.

KMC officials said the planned flyover will be about 700 meters long and will offer a grade separated route so vehicles can cross the intersection without stopping at traffic signals.

They added that the project will directly link traffic from Shah Faisal Colony to Shahrah-e-Bhutto, which will reduce waiting time at signals and make daily travel easier for thousands of commuters using the route.

Wahab also noted that the intersection serves as an important connection between Shah Faisal Town and the industrial areas of Korangi, where many workers and transport vehicles pass through every day.

He said construction work has officially begun and the city administration will aim to finish the project within 100 days so commuters can get relief as soon as possible.
