Rawalpindi imposes Section 144 till February 21

The district administration in Rawalpindi has extended Section 144 for another 15 days, which will now remain in effect until February 21, 2026, according to a report.

Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema issued a notification regarding the extension on Sunday. The notification states that all types of public rallies and gatherings are strictly prohibited.

It also mentions a ban on displaying weapons and using loudspeakers. The decision to extend Section 144 was made after recommendations were received from the Intelligence Committee.

Security on high alert in Rawalpindi

Following instructions from City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, security across Rawalpindi has been placed on high alert. More than 4,300 personnel from law enforcement agencies are deployed across the city.

Authorities have set up special checking points at 82 locations, mainly at key entry and exit routes of the city.

Because of Section 144, pillion riding has also been completely banned. Police mobile units, along with Elite Force and Dolphin Force teams, are actively patrolling different areas.

The City Police Officer said that “nobody will be allowed to create a law and order situation in the City.” He further warned that “anyone found involved in such activity will be dealt with as per the iron hands.”
