PMD forecasts rain, snowfall and hailstorms across parts of Pakistan

Intermittent rain along with isolated hailstorms is likely to affect Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several other parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday. Snowfall is also expected in mountainous areas during this period.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has reported that a westerly weather system is moving toward the western regions tonight. This system is expected to spread to the upper parts of the country from tomorrow and may continue until February 10.

As a result, most parts of Pakistan are expected to experience cold and dry weather on Sunday night, while hilly areas may face freezing temperatures. Parts of northern and western Balochistan are likely to see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rain and light snowfall at a few locations.

On Monday and Tuesday, rain accompanied by cloudy weather is expected in Balochistan and lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan may receive rain along with snowfall in higher elevations.

The Pothohar region and central Punjab are also expected to receive rain during the evening and night hours. Isolated hailstorms may occur in some areas during this time.

Snowfall may create slippery road conditions and disrupt traffic in areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli. There is also a possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir.

Minimum temperatures in Islamabad are expected to remain between 02°C and 04°C from Monday to Wednesday. In Rawalpindi, minimum temperatures are likely to stay between 05°C and 07°C on Monday and Tuesday, before dropping slightly to between 04°C and 06°C on Wednesday.

During the past 24 hours, cold and dry conditions prevailed across most parts of the country, with freezing temperatures in the upper regions. Leh remained the coldest area, recording temperatures 11°C below freezing. Kalam and Astore recorded minimum temperatures of -07°C, while Gupis, Hunza, Malam Jabba, and Skardu recorded -03°C.

Islamabad recorded a minimum temperature of 04°C, with evening humidity at 37 percent. Rawalpindi saw a minimum temperature of 06°C, and evening humidity there was also recorded at 37 percent.
