Recent reports suggest that Tesla is on the brink of entering the Indian market, as the government finalizes regulations for importing the electric vehicles from the American automaker.
“Tesla is anticipated to establish a production unit in India within the next 24 months after its official entry. An official announcement regarding this development might be made during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit next year.”
States such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat are expected to enter into competition to host Tesla’s production unit. It is speculated that Tesla could invest a minimum of $2 billion, emphasizing high levels of localization.
“The initial Tesla electric car manufactured in India is projected to be priced competitively at less than INR 17 lakh.
Encouraging signs, such as the improving relationship between the Indian government and Tesla, suggest a more feasible and practical entry into the Indian market.”
