In a bid to tackle the hazardous levels of smog, the caretaker government in Punjab is set to roll out electric bikes, as disclosed by the province’s Transport and Livestock Minister, Ibrahim Hasan Murad.
The plan involves providing electric bikes to government employees on a lease basis, aiming to diminish reliance on expensive fuels and contribute to environmental conservation within cities.
Minister Murad highlighted the significance of an electric vehicle policy, suggesting that by incentivizing electric vehicle manufacturing, Pakistan could secure a notable share in the global electric vehicle market.
He emphasized the cost-effectiveness and eco-friendly nature of e-bikes as a viable alternative to traditional transportation. Additionally, Murad informed that the provincial authorities have initiated measures against vehicles emitting harmful smoke.
The crackdown on environmentally harmful vehicles is expected to persist until the next month. Notably, the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab had previously announced the provision of 10,000 electric bikes for students with subsidies.
