PESHAWAR: A fresh round of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected to begin in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting on Wednesday (April 24).

The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has sent notifications to all district administrations to remain vigilant due to the anticipated showers, stated PDMA Director General Mohammad Qaisar Khan.

The DG PDMA emphasized that district administrations have been instructed to take proactive measures to manage the situation.

He also highlighted the likelihood of landslides in the upper districts due to the downpour, urging administrators to ensure the availability of necessary machinery during the rainfall.

The PDMA advised residents and tourists in sensitive upper areas to avoid proximity to electricity wires, unstable buildings, and under-construction structures.

Locals and tourists were urged to notice weather advisories and take precautionary measures, with district administrations tasked to communicate messages to citizens in local languages.

Additionally, authorities were instructed to remain prepared for the restoration of link roads in emergencies and to provide alternate routes for traffic in case of road blockages.

It was emphasized that relief workers’ availability should be ensured, and passengers and tourists traveling through sensitive areas on provincial and national routes should be kept informed about the emergency. Showers and snowfalls may persist intermittently until April 29.
