Peshawar, KPK weather update today; more rain expected

PESHAWAR – More rain, wind, and thunderstorms along with isolated hailstorms expected in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday evening/night, Friday, and Saturday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave is prevailing over much of Pakistan. It is likely to affect the upper parts of the country on Friday.

These weather conditions are expected to bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy and very heavy falls, as well as snowfall over high mountains, in various regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram on Thursday evening/night, Friday, and Saturday. There is also a possibility of hailstorms at isolated places during this period.

The heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in local nullahs/streams in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, and tributaries of the Kabul River on April 18th and 19th.

Landslides are also anticipated in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to standing crops, as well as loose structures like electric poles and solar panels during this period.

Peshawar is expected to experience maximum temperatures between 26-28 degrees Celsius on Friday and 28-30 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours, with rain occurring at a few places.

Dera Ismail Khan recorded the highest temperature in the province at 33 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 79 percent.

In Peshawar, the maximum temperature reached 32 degrees Celsius, with a relative humidity of 78 percent during the morning.
