Illegal cattle markets increase across Karachi ahead of Eid ul Azha

Illegal cattle markets are operating in several parts of Karachi, with city authorities claiming action, but enforcement still appears weak on the ground. As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, such activity is rising in both residential and commercial areas.

Residents say unauthorized livestock vendors have set up markets without permits, blocking roads and causing serious traffic disruption. These sites are also creating sanitation issues in nearby neighborhoods.

Officials had earlier promised strict measures against illegal animal markets and said approved sale points would be properly regulated. However, full enforcement of these directives has yet to be seen.

Citizens report increased waste, congestion, and safety concerns linked to these markets, along with obstruction of main roads and public movement. They are calling on authorities to take swift action and clear illegal setups.

The issue has raised concerns about municipal oversight in Karachi, especially regarding the enforcement of rules during the busy Eid season.

Local traders also say these illegal markets are hurting their businesses, as unlicensed sellers avoid fees and regulations, creating unfair competition and tension between licensed and unlicensed operators.

Authorities are now under pressure to carry out visible operations across the city, balancing public demand for sacrificial animals with proper enforcement of regulations ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
