YouTuber Rajab Butt was reportedly physically assaulted by a group of lawyers during a court appearance at Karachi City Court.
Media reports stated that Rajab Butt appeared at the court alongside Nadeem Naniwala in connection with a case registered against him earlier this year.
As soon as he entered the court compound, a group of lawyers allegedly surrounded him and attacked him, causing chaos and panic inside the premises.
Eyewitnesses said Rajab Butt was repeatedly punched and kicked, sustaining injuries to his jaw and mouth, with visible bleeding reported. They also noted that his clothes were torn during the assault.
His lawyer tried to intervene and protect him, but the situation escalated before authorities could arrive.
Court staff and police later reached the scene and managed to disperse the attackers, partially restoring order. The incident temporarily disrupted court proceedings.
Reports said Rajab Butt had come to the court to seek interim bail in a case registered against him at Haidery Police Station.
“When a few lawyers carry out life-threatening attacks on private civilians and resort to violence within court premises, this is not advocacy – it is thuggery.
Because of the misconduct of a handful of lawyers, the dignity and reputation of lawyers across the country are being damaged, which is unacceptable under any circumstances. The Sindh Bar Council and the Karachi Bar are urged to take notice,” tweeted Mian Ali Ashfaq, Rajab Butt’s lawyer, following the incident.
Rajab Butt is facing a blasphemy-related case and had already obtained interim bail before this court appearance.
Earlier this month, he also faced controversy at Islamabad airport when his UK visa was cancelled by the UK Home Department. The authorities reportedly revoked the visa after discovering that he had allegedly concealed information about cases registered against him in Pakistan.
