Naan, chapati prices officially reduced in Karachi

The Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has officially lowered the prices of naan and chapati across the city, effective immediately, as per the report on Friday.

As per the new price list, a 100-gram chapati will now cost Rs10. Tandoori naan prices have also been revised Rs15 for a 120-gram piece, Rs17 for 140-150 grams, and Rs22 for a 180-gram naan.

This adjustment falls under the authority granted by the Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 2005 (amended in 2008).

The commissioner’s notice states: “In exercise of the powers vested under section 7 of the said Act, I, Syed Hassan Naqvi, Commissioner Karachi Division/Controller General of Prices & Supplies, Karachi, hereby notify the price of Naan & Chapati in the local limits of Karachi Division.”

He has also warned that anyone selling these items above the fixed rates will face strict action and instructed all tandoor owners to display the updated prices at their establishments.

In related news, the Karachi administration had earlier announced a reduction in wheat flour prices across the city. The wholesale rate for fine wheat flour has been set at Rs78 per kg, while it will be sold at Rs90 per kg in the retail market.

Chakki flour is now priced at Rs90 per kg, reflecting a Rs10 decrease. Additionally, regular wheat flour (2½ No. Atta) will be available at Rs70 per kg for retail buyers and Rs66 per kg in the wholesale market.
