Islamabad rooftop restaurants face closure as CDA issues 2 week deadline

ISLAMABAD: Rooftop cafes, restaurants and other commercial businesses in Islamabad have been given 15 days by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to regularise their operations and obtain the required approvals.

The CDA’s Building & Housing Control Wing has issued a notice to owners, occupants and management of rooftop commercial establishments across the capital. The authority has directed them to obtain the necessary permissions under its approved Rooftop Policy and relevant building regulations.

The notice applies to rooftop businesses operating throughout the CDA’s jurisdiction, including establishments in sectoral areas and private housing societies. According to the CDA, the action is being taken to ensure public safety under the Islamabad Capital Territory Building Control Regulations 2020, as amended in 2023.

Affected businesses have been given two weeks from the date of publication of the notice to complete the regularisation process and obtain approval from the competent authority.

The CDA has warned that businesses that continue operating without the required permissions after the deadline could face enforcement action. This may include sealing the premises, stopping rooftop business activities, fines and other penalties under the relevant laws.

The authority has advised business owners and operators to complete the process without delay and treat the matter as urgent.

With the deadline now in place, rooftop businesses across Islamabad must either regularise their operations within the given period or risk enforcement action by the CDA.
