Sindh’s Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced on Saturday that the government will provide free pink scooters to working women as part of efforts to improve their mobility.
During his visit to inspect the ongoing construction of the Yellow Line BRT, the minister assessed the progress of the project.
He was accompanied by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Project Director Yellow Line Zameer Abbasi, engineers, and representatives from construction companies and consultants.
The project consultants gave a complete briefing on the current status, challenges, and expected completion date of the Yellow Line.
Sharjeel Inam Memon made it clear that any delays in completing the project would not be accepted.
He instructed the teams to hurry their efforts and ensure the BRT is completed ahead of its original timeline.
Speaking to the media, he repeated that the Sindh government is committed to providing Karachi with a modern public transport system.
Initially scheduled for completion in September 2025, the Yellow Line BRT will now be finished five months earlier, by May 2025.
He acknowledged that utility-related issues have posed construction challenges but assured that the government is actively addressing these concerns.
Discussing the Red Line BRT, he mentioned that problems arising from Civil Aviation, the Water Board, and the K-IV project are being dealt with and will soon be resolved.
He also commended the Transport Department for its efficiency in pushing these projects forward.
On the topic of the Green Line BRT, the minister clarified that while there would be no increase in fares, the government is focused on improving passenger facilities to enhance the overall public transport experience.
Sharjeel Inam Memon also urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to fulfill his commitment to providing 180 buses for Karachi.
He emphasized that the people of Karachi deserve better transport facilities, and the federal government should uphold its promise.
Focusing on the transportation needs of women, he announced that the Sindh government will be introducing free pink scooters exclusively for working women.
Additionally, a Pink Taxi Service will soon be launched to provide safe and comfortable travel options for women in the city.
He also highlighted the launch of the “I Work for Sindh” app and portal, which aims to create job opportunities for unemployed youth.
The minister assured Karachi’s residents that all these projects are being undertaken to improve public transport and will be completed on schedule to ensure better commuting options for the city’s population.
