University of London to launch academic programs in Lahore

In an initiative to expand step expand educational opportunities in Punjab, the University of London has agreed to begin its academic programs in Lahore.

This decision comes after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed, following a proposal by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aimed at bringing world-class education to the region.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s initiative focuses on providing students in Punjab access to education from the prestigious University of London.

Alongside this, efforts are underway to attract more international universities to the province, broadening the scope and quality of higher education.

As part of these efforts, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb held a meeting with Professor Wendy Thomson, Vice Chancellor of the University of London, to discuss the launch of a semester exchange program.

The meeting, attended by a delegation of education experts from the University of London, emphasized academic collaboration and exchange opportunities between Punjab and the UK.

During the discussions, Maryam Nawaz Sharif invited the University of London to establish an office in Punjab to strengthen ties and make educational opportunities more accessible for students in the region.

Maryam Aurangzeb shared that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expanded the scholarship program to benefit 50,000 students, a notable increase from the previous 30,000.

60% of the scholarships are reserved for female students, reflecting the Chief Minister’s commitment to promoting gender equality in education.

The initiative also includes efforts to modernize the province’s education system, with a focus on curriculum enhancement, teacher training, and upgrading educational facilities.

Additionally, the senior minister highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a National University in Murree, aligning with the Chief Minister’s vision of improving Punjab’s educational infrastructure.

Professor Wendy Thomson praised the Chief Minister’s dedication to advancing education and governance in Punjab, calling the initiatives admirable.

She expressed excitement about the potential partnership between the University of London and Punjab’s institutions.

This collaboration signals a new chapter in Punjab’s educational journey, offering students the chance to benefit from world-class academic resources and opportunities without having to leave their home country.
