Karachi public transport to resume after strike ends

The Karachi Transport Ittehad has called off its strike and public transport is expected to resume normal service across the city from tomorrow.

The decision came after a meeting between representatives of the Karachi Transport Ittehad and the Commissioner Karachi, where long-standing transport issues were discussed in detail.

Sources said transporters’ request for a two-month exemption in the biometric verification process during vehicle transfers was approved.

The matter of a Rs. 12,000 payment linked to third-party insurance was also taken up, with officials assuring that it would be addressed.

Several other concerns raised by transporters were also discussed, and both sides agreed to hold another meeting after 15 days to review the progress on the agreed points.

According to sources, the Karachi Transport Ittehad will also consult its affiliated transport groups soon to review the government’s assurances and decide on future steps.

The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of commuters who were affected by the suspension of transport services.

The city’s transport sector has often faced disruptions over regulatory requirements, vehicle fitness rules, insurance conditions, and administrative matters.

In the past as well, talks between transporters and Karachi authorities have focused on easing compliance timelines while also improving road safety standards.
