The federal government has reduced electricity rates by 93 paisa under fuel adjustment charges (FCA) starting from November 2025, while keeping the basic tariff unchanged, as reported on Monday.
According to the report, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has also approved the government’s decision. A notification has already been issued to LESCO and other power distribution companies. Consumers will receive this relief in their electricity bills for units consumed in November.
The government has decided not to revise the basic electricity tariff.
Earlier, NEPRA had sent a summary proposing a cut of 62 paisa per unit in the basic tariff. For 2026, NEPRA fixed the basic electricity rate at Rs33.38 per unit and held a hearing on implementing a uniform tariff across the country.
The Power Division applied an equal electricity tariff for 2026. NEPRA approved the reduction and forwarded its decision to the federal government.
It also endorsed a 62 paisa cut in the tariff. The Power Division stated that the federal government is providing subsidies on electricity.
Officials clarified that electricity prices remain unchanged in terms of the basic tariff. The national grid currently has an installed capacity of 36,397 megawatts. Power Division officials added that reliance on imported fuel stands at only 26 percent.
The federal government is providing Rs629 billion in subsidies to electricity consumers.
