Airlines increase fares after surge in jet fuel prices

Airlines operating in Pakistan have raised ticket prices following a steep increase in jet fuel rates across the country.

According to airline sources, fares for domestic flights departing from Karachi to Lahore, Islamabad and other cities have gone up. Ticket prices on local routes have increased by Rs2,800 to Rs5,000 per passenger.

Sources also said that fares on international routes have been revised upward. Ticket prices have risen between Rs10,000 and Rs28,000 depending on the destination. Flights from Pakistan to destinations in the Middle East and Central Asia have seen increases of up to Rs15,000 per ticket.

In addition, airline sources said fares for flights from Pakistan to Toronto and Manchester have climbed by as much as Rs28,000 per ticket. The one-way economy class fare on these routes has now crossed Rs250,000.

The increase in fares comes after a sharp jump in jet fuel prices in Pakistan. Sources said the price of jet fuel has surged by Rs. 154 per litre, pushing the rate up to Rs342 per litre.
