Uganda has secured a top-two finish in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier, winning five out of six games and earning a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.
In their opening match, Uganda convincingly defeated Tanzania by eight wickets. However, Namibia’s David Wiese’s outstanding performance led to Uganda’s six-wicket defeat in the next game.
Captain Sikandar Raza played a crucial role in their notable five-wicket win against Zimbabwe, with bowler Dinesh Nakrani leading the attack.
Buoyed by this success, Uganda defeated Nigeria and Kenya, solidifying their position in the T20 World Cup. They continued their momentum with a decisive nine-wicket win over Rwanda, showcasing exceptional bowling skills.
Notably, Zimbabwe, having suffered defeats, failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024. Uganda’s qualification marks a historic milestone as they make their debut appearance in an ICC World Cup event, becoming the fifth African nation to participate in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
