The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is preparing for more heavy rains following a recent record-breaking downpour that caused significant flooding in Dubai and other emirates on April 16. The country is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall starting Wednesday night.
Earlier this month, UAE faced severe thunderstorms which led to flooding, with Dubai receiving more rain in a few hours than it typically does in a year and a half. This event marked the most substantial rainfall in the country within 24 hours in the past 75 years.
According to reports from the Khaleej Times, further episodes of torrential rain are forecasted, although it is unlikely to be as severe as the previous downpour.
A weather expert from UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Dr. Ahmed Habib, stated that the upcoming weather conditions will involve moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder, with the situation expected to peak on May 2 and 3.
Dr. Habib emphasized that the upcoming weather pattern will be different from the previous one, with cloud formations starting from the south of Abu Dhabi and gradually moving towards internal areas like Al Ain. However, he highlighted May 3 as the peak of the situation.
The Met Department forecasts suggest that the weather may improve over Friday and Saturday as the low-pressure system moves southward, leading to a decrease in cloud cover. Nevertheless, light to moderate rain may still occur during this period.
Dr. Habib pointed out that the country will be affected by an extension of surface low pressure from the Red Sea, accompanied by humid southeasterly winds.
Additionally, a similar low-pressure extension in the upper atmosphere from the north will impact the conditions, causing clouds to migrate from Saudi Arabia towards the UAE, resulting in unstable weather conditions starting late Wednesday night.
