Trump govt may expand travel ban to 43 countries

The Trump administration is reportedly considering imposing new travel restrictions on citizens from 43 countries, according to local media reports on Saturday.

The proposed policy would categorize countries into three groups, each facing different levels of restrictions.

The first group, known as the Red List, includes Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Venezuela, Yemen, and a few others, totaling 11 countries.

Citizens from these nations would be completely banned from entering the United States.

The second group, the Orange List, includes Pakistan, Russia, and ten other countries. People from these nations would face restrictions on immigrant and tourist visas, though business travelers might still be allowed entry under certain conditions.

The third category, the Yellow List, consists of 20 countries, including Chad, Dominica, and Liberia.

Citizens from these countries would have 60 days to address any concerns regarding their visa applications before potential restrictions are compulsory.

During his first term, Donald Trump had signed three executive orders that barred citizens from several Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S., a move widely known as the “Muslim Ban.” The new proposal appears to be an expansion of that policy.

A U.S. official, speaking to the media, clarified that the lists are “subject to change” based on ongoing security assessments and policy discussions.
