In a surprising turn of events, the man suspected of harassing Pakistani actress Srha Asghar might evade legal consequences as the First Information Report (FIR) filed against him faces potential dismissal due to the lack of cooperation from the complainant, according to law enforcement sources.
Inspector Javed Babar, the head of the Shahrah Faisal Investigation Department, revealed that despite the complainant’s non-cooperation, his department is in the process of preparing a case challan against the suspect, identified as Asim.
Upon being produced in court, Asim vehemently denied all allegations leveled against him. However, the situation took an unexpected twist when the female judge summoned Srha Asghar, the alleged victim, to testify in court. To the court’s surprise, Srha Asghar failed to appear, raising questions about the veracity of the claims.
Crucial pieces of evidence, including the torn clothing worn by Srha during the incident and potential eyewitnesses to the alleged harassment, were notably absent from both the police investigation and court proceedings. Additionally, there was no legal representation on behalf of the plaintiff, further complicating the legal process.
Given the complainant’s lack of cooperation, the court reluctantly ordered the release of the suspect on bail, leaving the case’s future uncertain.
The incident in question reportedly occurred on August 1 when Srha Asghar visited a local market for errands. The FIR, lodged at the Sharea Faisal Police Station by Umar Murtaza, Srha’s husband, detailed the distressing encounter. According to Srha’s statement provided to law enforcement, an individual began following her and subjecting her to catcalls as she made her way back from the market. The situation escalated when the suspect trailed her to her residence and allegedly attempted to physically touch her, resulting in the tearing of her clothing.
Srha managed to seek refuge within her home by ringing the doorbell and alerting her husband to the distressing situation. An altercation ensued between Umar Murtaza and the suspect. The situation took a turn for the worse when the individual forcibly entered their residence and reportedly assaulted Srha, leading to further damage to her attire.
Contradicting the initial claims, Inspector Javed Babar disclosed that subsequent to the case registration and the suspect’s apprehension, neither Srha nor her husband made an appearance at the police station to provide additional statements or evidence.
The uncertainty surrounding the case raises concerns about the administration of justice and the protection of victims of harassment. The legal proceedings’ outcome remains uncertain, with the fate of the suspect hinging on the evolving developments in the wake of the complainant’s non-cooperation.
