A momentous occasion unfolded as Skardu International Airport welcomed its maiden international flight from Dubai, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan. The inaugural flight, PK-234, carrying 79 passengers, took off from Dubai at 4:15 am and successfully touched down in Skardu after a journey of four hours and 30 minutes.
The aircraft received a ceremonial water cannon salute upon arrival, accompanied by a gesture of goodwill as passengers were presented with bouquets, symbolizing the historical importance of this achievement.
Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of this development. He highlighted that the introduction of international flights to Skardu would open up new avenues for travel, forging connections between the local community and the global stage. Wani emphasized the potential of this progressive step to significantly enhance tourism and amplify regional connectivity on a broader scale.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), expressed his elation over this inaugural international flight, coinciding with Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day.
