Karachi: The Sindh government has issued a final offer to the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) to shift their ongoing protests to designated locations and warn them to face stricter action if the protests continue in their current form.
The protest has been happening for the last nine days due to the issue that happened in Parachinar. The situation escalated at the Numaish sit-in when police used tear gas and baton charges to disperse the crowd, which led to incidents of vehicles and property being set on fire.
Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar, speaking with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon, emphasized the government’s priority of maintaining law and order while minimizing public inconvenience caused by road blockages.
The Minister stated that several efforts had been made to negotiate with MWM leaders, including proposals for alternative protest sites, but these suggestions were turned down.
Currently, protests by both MWM and Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) supporters have resulted in severe traffic jams across Karachi, affecting key areas such as Numaish, Abbas Town, and Shahra e Pakistan. These blockages have badly impacted daily life and prompted further police action.
According to the report, authorities have detained 19 protesters and filed charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other laws. Meanwhile, a death has been reported during the clashes, though investigations are still ongoing to determine its connection to the protests.
