The Sindh interim government has declared a public holiday on September 1 (Friday) to commemorate the Urs celebrations of Sufi saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.
As stated in an official notification by the provincial caretaker government, all entities falling under the jurisdiction of the Sindh government, excluding essential services, will observe the holiday. This includes offices, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils.
The notification specifies that September 1, 2023, corresponding to 14th Safar 1445 (A.H), will be observed as a public holiday throughout Sindh in honor of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s (RA) Urs. This holiday encompasses all entities under the administrative purview of the Sindh government, with the exception of essential services.
The Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, a Sufi poet and scholar, takes place annually on the 14th Safar and spans three days. Reports indicate that the three-day Urs event will commence with poetry recitals, literary conferences, and other related activities.
