Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that the selection of the interim prime minister would be finalized by Saturday. During discussions with journalists in the federal capital, Sharif highlighted his intention to consult with coalition partners before reaching a final decision.
In response to a query, the prime minister acknowledged that the past 16 months in office had constituted the most challenging period of his political career. He criticized the previous administration for causing extensive damage across various sectors, including the economy and diplomatic relations.
Sharif expressed gratitude for divine assistance and the collaboration of coalition partners, which enabled the government to successfully avert a financial crisis and restore positive relations with countries like China, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Turkey, and Iran. He emphasized the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council as a key initiative aimed at steering the nation towards sustainable growth and prosperity.
The prime minister was lauded by journalists for the passage of the ‘The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2023′ through both houses of Parliament. This bill was commended for linking government advertisements to media workers’ salaries, a significant step towards safeguarding the rights of journalists. The former Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb, was also recognized for her contributions to the welfare of the journalist community.
