Foldable phone technology continues its rapid evolution, with Samsung leading the charge. Despite the popularity of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip and Fold series, the original Galaxy Z Flip will no longer receive software updates as Samsung moves forward with innovation.
Samsung has discontinued software support for its original LTE Galaxy Z Flip model. This decision means the company’s pioneering foldable phone will no longer receive new Android versions or regular security patches. However, Samsung may issue one final security update before support completely halts.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G, released six months later, will continue to receive security updates, although at longer intervals. Notably, Samsung hasn’t extended the same level of long-term support to the Galaxy Z Flip as it has to other flagship phones released in 2020.
For instance, while the Galaxy S20 series is scheduled to receive updates for up to five years, the early foldable models from Samsung seem to have lower sales figures.
