Some Samsung Galaxy S21 series users have reported encountering a troublesome “green line” issue on their devices, particularly affecting Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S21 FE models.
This problem manifests as a vertical green line stretching from the top to the bottom of the screen, often appearing after certain software updates. Despite not significantly affecting the phone’s functionality, it can be visually distracting.
Users have taken to platforms like X and Reddit to express their frustration with this issue, with some noting that it emerged following recent software updates, such as the April security patch. Samsung has remained silent, leaving users wondering about the exact cause.
While it’s tempting to attribute the problem only to software glitches, evidence suggests that it may be rooted in hardware defects.
Specifically, the issue seems to stem from loose, damaged, or defective connectors or flex cables within the AMOLED displays, which link the motherboard to the screen. This isn’t a unique problem to Samsung devices, as similar issues have been observed in other brands.
Factors like heat from demanding tasks or environmental conditions might worsen the problem, causing flex cables to loosen or sustain damage over time. However, conclusive evidence supporting these theories is lacking.

Resolving the green line issue may necessitate replacing either the phone’s display or, in extreme cases, its motherboard.
Users are advised to contact Samsung’s customer support, providing photographic evidence and relevant documentation to expedite the troubleshooting process. Depending on the specific circumstances and phone model, the cause and solution may vary.
