The Federal Bureau of Statistics has just released its latest weekly inflation report, shedding light on the recent price fluctuations in essential commodities. According to the Bureau’s findings, there have been notable changes in the prices of various basic necessities over the past week.
Last week witnessed a decrease in the prices of several essential items. Tomatoes saw a substantial decrease of 13.60% in their prices. Moreover, the cost of a five-liter container of cooking oil reduced by 1.65%, while vegetable ghee became 0.43% cheaper.
Firewood and mustard oil experienced marginal reductions, with their prices dropping by 0.42% and 0.23%, respectively. Additionally, the price of flour decreased by 0.19%, contributing to the overall trend of decreased prices for these commodities.
Changes in Basic Necessities: Within the realm of basic necessities, the Bureau of Statistics identified shifts in the prices of key items. A total of 32 items, including dal mash, lentils, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, eggs, sugar, beef, mutton, raw milk, curd, jaggery, red chili powder, and petroleum products, experienced price increases during the recent week. On the other hand, the prices of 12 essential commodities remained stable, reflecting a level of consistency in their costs.
Notable Increases, The report highlights some noteworthy increases in prices as well. Red chili powder recorded a notable surge of 7.58% in its price, with rice following closely behind at a 7.48% increase. Garlic, an essential ingredient in many dishes, witnessed a rise of 5.06% in its cost. Similarly, sugar and jaggery became more expensive by 4.02% and 3.23%, respectively. Among the protein sources, the price of chicken saw a relatively moderate increase of 2.83%.
