In a recent development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to withdraw the fine imposed on Azam Khan after a thorough review of the situation.
It was reported that Azam Khan had violated Article 2.4 of the PCB’s Code of Conduct by not adhering to the umpire’s instructions during a National T20 Cup match between Karachi Whites and Lahore Blues at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Initially, Azam Khan was fined 50% of his match fee by the match officials.
The PCB, in a concise press release, stated that after careful consideration, Azam Khan’s fine has been revoked. The violation was related to Article 2.4, which pertains to players failing to comply with the instructions or directives of an umpire during a match.
Azam Khan, a player for Karachi Whites, had received the fine for not following the PCB’s Code of Conduct, specifically regarding the prohibition of wearing or displaying items that convey personal messages without prior approval from the relevant authorities.
It is important to note that players and team officials are not allowed to showcase such items on their equipment without approval from the player or Team Officials Association and the PCB Cricket Operations and Department.
Following the incident, social media, particularly Twitter, saw an influx of criticism directed at the PCB for its policies, especially in the context of players expressing solidarity with Palestine. Fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the board’s approach, raising questions about the consistency and fairness of its regulations.
