Pakistan Railways has announced a ten percent fare hike for all train services in response to a significant surge in global petroleum prices. The increase, effective from August 17, was confirmed through an official notification by the railways. The adjustment encompasses all classes of passenger and shuttle trains.
Passengers traveling between Karachi and Shikarpur will experience a fare rise of Rs200, bringing the ticket cost to Rs1,600. Similarly, the fare for the Mehr train departing from Karachi will see a Rs100 hike, resulting in a revised ticket price of Rs1,400.
In a late-night development, Pakistan’s interim government decided to elevate the prices of petroleum products, attributing the decision to a notable upswing in global oil rates. As part of this adjustment, petrol prices have been raised by Rs17.50 per litre, and high-speed diesel (HSD) has experienced an even steeper increase of Rs20 per litre.
The Finance Division explained the rationale behind these price changes, stating that the international petroleum market has witnessed an upward trajectory over the past two weeks. Consequently, Pakistan is also adjusting its consumer prices in response to these global fluctuations.
The recent surge in global petroleum prices has prompted Pakistan Railways to implement a ten percent fare increase across all train categories, as announced through an official notification. The adjustments in fare prices, which will be effective from August 17, aim to counterbalance the impact of rising petroleum costs. The government’s decision to increase petroleum prices by up to Rs20 per litre further underscores the interconnectedness of global economic factors affecting local consumer prices.
