In a recent press conference, Senior Deputy Convener of MQM-Pakistan, Dr Farooq Sattar, highlighted the importance of updated voter lists following the approval of a new census for holding fair elections. He stressed the need for transparent and impartial elections to avoid the imposition of fake representation in Karachi. Dr Sattar expressed urgency for general elections, aiming to address public concerns and initiate governance by a new government.
Dr Sattar also highlighted the severe electricity crisis in Pakistan, particularly in Karachi. He noted that escalating electricity bills were contributing to rising street crime and a potential breakdown of order. He criticized the inflationary impact on lower and middle-class citizens, emphasizing that electricity usage isn’t taxed in most countries.
MQM-P Convener, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, joined the conversation by expressing concern that protests against soaring electricity bills could escalate into chaos. He urged the Prime Minister to intervene in resolving the issue to prevent a looming crisis. Dr Siddiqui called for government action to alleviate the electricity burden on citizens, warning that the MQM-P may resort to street protests if necessary.
In addition to advocating for updated voter lists and addressing the electricity crisis, MQM-P highlighted load shedding issues in areas like Hyderabad. Traders in Karachi and Hyderabad had announced a protest in response to the electricity crisis. The party stressed that the government held the responsibility to provide relief and prevent further unrest in the country.
