In a recent development, the MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) written exam for admission to medical and dental colleges in Sindh, including Karachi, has been rescheduled to take place on September 10. Initially, the exam was planned for August 27 but was postponed by the government. The caretaker government has now confirmed the new date.
The responsibility for conducting this year’s MDCAT, including the written test and admission process, has been entrusted to Jinnah Sindh Medical University on behalf of the provincial health department. Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, the Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University, provided details on the exam locations.
In Karachi, the written test will be conducted at Karachi University’s Maskan Gate Ground and the Cricket Ground of the Dow University Ojha Campus. Meanwhile, for students in interior Sindh, the exam venues include LUMS University in Jamshoro, Bilawal Sports Complex in Nawabshah, and Larkana Police Training School in Shaheed Benazirabad Nawabshah.
Regarding the MDCAT Syllabus for 2023, it has been decided that the syllabus will remain unchanged from the previous year’s exam.
The MDCAT Merit Formula for 2023 is as follows:
- Matric score: 10 percent
- Intermediate (FSc): 40 percent
- MDCAT: 50 percent

- Exam Duration: 3.5 hours
Furthermore, the minimum passing marks required for admission to medical colleges are set at 65 percent, while for dental college admission, a minimum of 55 percent is required.
