LESCO introduces single electricity meter policy

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has introduced a considerable policy in which focusing on reducing costs for large commercial and industrial electricity consumers.

Director Customer Services Abbas Ali issued a notification, mentioning that LESCO will now install only one Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meter, shortening the process, giving economic relief to consumers.

Consumers shifting to solar energy can now opt to be billed through either the main or backup meter, removing the previous requirement for dual meters.

Moreover, only one “LT TOU” (Low Tension Time-of-Use) meter will be installed under new connections, simplifying the process. This will benefit consumers approximately Rs45,000 in installation costs, along with Rs80,000 in waived AT Box charges, adding up to around Rs125,000 in total savings.

This policy and strategy, introduced by LESCO, is intended to encourage adoption of smart meters and ease the transition to solar energy. It also improves the setup experience for new users.

Earlier this year, LESCO urged customers to use official sources and mediums due to issues with LT Smart AMI meter availability. Private purchasing was banned regarding concerns about uncertified equipment and delays.

As a result, LESCO stopped issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs), requiring consumers to obtain smart meters through formal demand notices issued by the company. This ensures proper inspection and certified installation.

The revised policy follows extended disruptions caused by meter shortages and certification backlogs. By consolidating procurement and easing financial pressures, LESCO hopes to deliver smarter, more transparent energy solutions.
