King Charles III expressed his deep regret at not being able to attend the Maundy Thursday service due to his ongoing cancer treatment. Instead, Queen Camilla represented him, distributing Maundy money to deserving individuals.
The recipients, 75 men and 75 women, matched the monarch’s age. Despite his absence, King Charles reaffirmed his commitment to serving others and praised those who offer friendship, especially during difficult times.
The ceremony, a centuries-old tradition, honors individuals who have contributed to their communities. This year’s recipients received special coins commemorating various events and organizations.
Norman Tomlinson, one of the recipients, expressed his gratitude and conveyed well wishes for the King and Princess of Wales.
While King Charles continues his treatment, Queen Camilla has been representing him at public engagements.
The King is expected to attend the Easter church service, albeit in a smaller capacity due to ongoing health concerns within the royal family.
