- A KFC branch in Pakistan shut down due to concerns over unhygienic conditions.
- Reports of spoiled meat and unsanitary kitchens prompted the closure.
- District authorities take action to ensure clean and safe food for residents.
In a recent development, district authorities in Rawalpindi took decisive action by shutting down two food establishments, namely Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and OMG. These closures were prompted by concerns over the use of spoiled meat and unsanitary kitchen conditions.
Assistant Commissioner Cantonment, Qandeel Fatima Memon, took action against KFC Scheme 3 after a customer complaint revealed a piece of wire in a burger from the restaurant. Following a thorough investigation that confirmed the complaint’s authenticity, KFC Scheme 3 was temporarily closed. Authorities also issued a warning to the establishment, urging them to enhance their kitchen practices and food preparation standards.
Another inspection led to the closure of OMG Restaurant in Askari 3. A complaint had been filed regarding OMG serving burgers with an unpleasant odor. The subsequent kitchen inspection revealed unsanitary conditions, including the presence of cockroaches and uncovered food containers. Consequently, the restaurant was sealed.
Food establishments are required to obtain health certificates from the district health authority. Additionally, outlets must ensure that their chefs and staff undergo biannual medical examinations and obtain medical reports from government hospitals.
The provincial government has emphasized the importance of taking strict actions against those who compromise public health. Further surprise inspections in the cantonment areas are planned to enforce health and safety standards effectively. The Rawalpindi district administration remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its residents by ensuring the availability of clean and safe food.
