Pakistan’s talented marksman Kashmala Talat has set a new national record in the women’s 25m pistol competition at the ongoing ISSF World Shooting Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan.
During the qualifying round, Kashmala achieved a score of 583+19x, narrowly missing a spot in the top 8 by just one point.
Despite tying with India’s Rhythm Sangwan with a score of 583, Rhythm advanced to the top 8 due to a higher number of shots in the center of the target.
Had Kashmala gained a single additional point from her score of 290 on the first day, she would have secured a spot in the top 8. Rhythm Sangwan, who had 284 points on the first day, jumped to 299 on the second day.
A position in the top 6 during the final round could have earned Kashmala a place in the Paris Olympics. However, she will now need to participate in qualifiers in October for another chance at securing her spot in the next Olympics.
Kashmala’s score of 583/600 in this category established a new national record, surpassing her previous record of 582/600 achieved during this year’s national games.
Earlier, Kashmala had secured the 10th position in the women’s air pistol event as well.
