A Monsoon Alert is currently in effect due to weak moist currents originating from the Bay of Bengal. These currents are affecting central and upper regions of Pakistan. According to the Meteorological Office, various parts of the country are expected to receive intermittent monsoon rains until August 27.
In light of this advisory, the Meteorological Office has cautioned that the upcoming rainy period might result in moderate to heavy rainfall. This could potentially lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Lahore from August 23rd to 26th.
Moreover, there’s a possibility of landslides occurring in vulnerable regions such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this wet spell.
