The Met Office has forecasted hot and very humid weather for the central and upper districts of Sindh, including the provincial capital Karachi, on Tuesday. While most of the southeastern region of the country is experiencing sultry conditions, some coastal areas and other parts might witness light drizzles over the next 24 hours.
As of today, the minimum temperature in Karachi has been recorded at 31 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius. A brisk wind blowing in from the southwest is predicted to have a speed of 41 km/h.
The air quality in Karachi has shown signs of improvement over the past few days. According to AccuWeather, the air quality index for the country’s financial hub was measured at 47. This reading indicates that the air quality is generally acceptable for the majority of individuals. However, those who are more sensitive might experience mild to moderate symptoms due to prolonged exposure.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a new spell of monsoon rains starting from August 23. Weak moist currents originating from the Bay of Bengal are anticipated to penetrate central and upper regions of the country during this period.
According to the latest advisory from the Met Office, several parts of Pakistan are expected to receive moderate to heavy monsoon rains from August 23 to August 27, with intermittent breaks.
This wet spell might result in urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Lahore between August 23 and 26. Furthermore, the advisory warns of possible landslides in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this rainy period.
The forecast also indicates the likelihood of rain, wind-thundershowers, and a few instances of moderate to heavy precipitation in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various other regions. The affected areas include Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, and Sheikhupura, with these conditions expected to persist from August 23 to August 27.
