The upcoming preparatory meeting for the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Ministerial, focusing on “Safety and Security of UN Peacekeepers,” is scheduled to take place in Islamabad from August 30 to 31. Co-hosted by Japan, the event will witness the participation of foreign and defense ministers, who will deliver significant addresses. The meeting’s agenda encompasses crucial subjects such as capacity-building, the safety of peacekeepers, medical support enhancement, technological advancements, and strategic communication.
Distinguished experts and senior officials from the UN will join the discussions. Bringing attention to pressing issues like the threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Pakistan’s integral role in UN peacekeeping initiatives is spotlighted, as it has contributed a substantial force of over 230,000 peacekeepers to 46 missions across the globe. This active participation underscores Pakistan’s dedication to fostering security and stability in areas affected by conflict.
Looking ahead, the 2023 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial is slated to occur in December, hosted by Ghana. This significant event is preceded by a series of preparatory meetings, including the forthcoming Islamabad gathering. The discussions in these meetings aim to yield tangible outcomes.
