Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature on iOS that lets people watch Reels without having to download the app.
This feature uses App Clips, introduced with iOS 14, which are like previews allowing users to try out a feature before fully committing to the app. Similarly, TikTok also offers a similar feature for non-users.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, this App Clip for Instagram allows iOS users to view Reels directly within the app’s interface, rather than through a web browser.
Users can watch up to six Reels at a time and scroll through popular videos. The App Clip also enables sharing Reels with others. It’s worth noting that no Instagram account is required to use this feature.
App Clips are essentially miniature versions of apps that can be triggered through various methods such as QR codes or shared links. They allow users to perform quick tasks without downloading the full app immediately.
After encountering a specific command, like clicking on a link, users can access the App Clip, perform the desired task, and decide whether to download the full app later.
This feature serves as a demo or preview of the app’s functionality, giving users a chance to test it out before committing to the full download and installation process.
It’s a way to make the app more accessible and user-friendly for those who may be hesitant to download it right away.
